ARETHUSA

cryptography explorer

A workbench for surfacing what was buried in text — keyed ciphers, transpositions, and runic gematria, worked by hand with live frequency analysis and crib-testing. Named for the nymph who fled underground and resurfaced as a hidden spring, and for the hard cipher in Cryptonomicon. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing you paste leaves the page.

KRYPTOS
Sanborn sculpture · K1–K4

CIPHER BENCH
Classical toolkit
A general sandbox — Caesar, Vigenère, Atbash, Playfair, columnar transposition — with stacking and auto-analysis.
planned
Method: prove the work. Each tool shows its intermediate state — alphabets, key streams, index of coincidence — so a solution can be re-derived, never just asserted. Surprising output without a reproducible path is treated as noise.
